"She told me she had written Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day in six weeks, from start to finish. "My father and I tried to get her to write again, but she wouldn't," remembers her son Keith Pickering. But writing was phased out of her life during World War II and the concurrent and subsequent commitment to her husband and newborn son.
